Amplifiers are devices that convert weaker signals into a stronger signal. It can amplify various types of signals such as audio signals, power, electricity, radio waves, etc. It simply uses the input signals and then increases its size many times over, using any external power source to get a stronger waveform. The amplifiers that use the electrical energy source are called power amplifiers, and the amplified output is useful for output devices such as transmitters, speakers, and headphones.
Typically, the power amplifiers are only effective when the input signal is above a certain size, and therefore the signals are amplified using a voltage amplifier, and then the tone and volume controls are used to make audio adjustments, and then it becomes an amplifier passed, which amplifies the power supply before feeding into the speaker.
Types of amplifiers
There are three types of power amplifiers depending on the type of output device used for the final signals. You are:
High frequency amplifier
Radio frequency amplifiers are used to amplify the size of the radio waves. Radio wave transmissions are mostly used for FM transmitters and for this the waves are transmitted from one antenna to another. The waves should be strong enough to cover long distances and therefore high frequency amplifiers are used.
Audio amplifiers are mainly used in audio devices such as speakers, headphones, home theaters, cell phones, etc. These increase the strength of the audio waves fed by the input device and then transmit higher-strength audio waves in the range from milliwatts to kilowatts.
The DC amplifiers are used to amplify the size of the pulse width modulated (PWM) signals. These signals are used in the actuators or motors that require high performance PWM signals.
Use of amplifiers
Depending on the amplifier type and the amplifier classes, there are different applications, which are listed below:
- Industrial applications: Typically, the power requirement is much higher for industrial purposes, and this is why amplifiers are used to operate the high performance systems without interrupting the processes. There are many sub-types of DC amplifiers that are used for important industrial applications such as switching on DC motors and actuator systems for industrial purposes.
- Electronic equipment: Today, most consumer electronic devices have amplifier systems installed. Devices such as speakers, cell phones, home theaters, headphones, televisions, concert and theater music systems, etc. all have power amplifiers to increase the size of the audio output with higher quality.
- Wireless transmission: Continuous radio waves are required for all types of wireless communication and transmission. In order for the radio waves to transmit, there should be enough power to travel long distances without being weak and distorted before reaching the destination. Power amplifiers are therefore used to increase the size of the radio waves.
